Sewing has changed my life, especially as a mother. All the outfits I have made for my kids have been so cute! Not only the gifts you can make for other mums having newborns. Fixing clothes that are too big can also save you a tonne of money in the long run. Sewing offers numerous benefits that have enhanced my well-being and daily routine.
This post is all about How Sewing Benefits Moms: Enhancing Well-Being and Creativity.
How Sewing Benefits Moms
Embracing Sewing as a Mother
I actually bought a sewing machine as my horse kept ripping her rugs and it was costing me a fortune to get them repaired and I thought tell you what I can do this myself! After all this time I still havent used my sewing machine for that, I have always made little projects, baby clothes and baby blankets as its super fun and whats more cute than having your kids wearing your own made clothes and even your own handmade blanket on the pram.
I now look at bought items in a whole new light. I look at the item I like and then the cost and if its a fortune I always think…I will leave that as I can make one myself and I also get to choose th fabric and pattern. (or my kids can!)

Stress Relief and Mental Well-being
Not only is sewing fun and enables you to create what you need, its also a great stress reliever and reduce anxiety. See the research here:

Boosting Creativity and Personal Fulfillment
There are loads of free sewing printables on Pinterest which you can download and print for free to create your own kids clothes – I have added the link to the board on my Pinterest where I add everything I like or fancy making. A super cheap way to make clothes too is to visit charity shops and purchase fabric or large clothing items you can cut up into your own designs.
I have had so many comments asking where I have bought my kids babygrows from and I have even sold a few in my time. I just love how my kids have unique clothes on!!

I hope you like what I have made up to now, keeping in mind the last time I used a sewing machine was in school! There has been no stopping me with my Janome beginner sewing machine (this link is the newer version of my machine)
Practical Benefits: Creating for the Family
I have mainly concentrated on babygrows for my kids, however they are starting to get a little older now and I have been thinking about the doll clothes we can make or even baby blankets for my girls toy babies. Even bedding! They can choose the exact fabric they want on their bed, The list is endless! I actually can’t wait to teach my kids how to sew. We even have campervan themed accessories for our VW Campervan, because why not!

Building a Supportive Community
When I started I joined a load of Facebook Sewing groups for beginners and when I had silly questions I always received an answer. Whether it was that I didn’t know which way the bobbin went into the machine or how to thread the machine, someone always helped me. Here are the groups I am part of:
These groups give support and also have a community of people selling fabric for super cheap! Before I forget, YouTube is also amazing for learning sewing too.
Teaching Valuable Skills to Children
As I mentioned earlier I can’t wait to teach my kids to sew! These are skills that will be with them for life. It can also teach them patience, creativity and practical skills. My little ones are too little yet though, its only a matter of time!
Conclusion: Encouraging Other Moms to Sew
I know as a mum or even a stay-at-home mum it can be hard to have a hobby. Its super hard to get out the house sometimes, never mind actually do something for yourself. Sewing of an evening or with your kids is a great idea as you can make things for them so they will totally be on board!
I have had so many mums say to me ‘oh I couldn’t do that’ and its such a shame as there is so many things you could make and it’s totally not hard at all once you know the basics.
Showing you how sewing benefits moms has been key to me as its such fun and you can make things that are also so expensive to buy for your babies to keep the costs down and stay being a stay-at-home mom!
