Today I am talking about simple living tips for mums as to be honest I need this right now and I thought it would help you out too. I have been struggling to achieve a minimalist lifestyle with the family home, yet I know living with less will help significantly and give me close to a stress-free home. Let’s talk about how…
This post is all about Simplifying Your Home: 7 Simple Living Tips for Mums.
Simple Living Tips for Mums
Embrace Minimalism in Everyday Life
I have realised that there are so many benefits of owning less and choosing quality over quantity. After a lot of Youtube videos and Tiktok videos about minimalism, I have seen that some people get obsessed with living with nothing and some don’t. I have made the decision to just start small, as when trying to get rid of everything I experienced a huge amount of overwhelm.
After removing a lot of things we just don’t simply need, I actually conducted a little experiment with my kids rooms. There is a lot of research about kids with less actually are better off for development as they use their imagination instead of just moving toys around the room. Therefore I decided whilst my daughter was at nursery to remove a bunch of toys and put them into bin bags to store for now. The same day I noticed my daughter actually playing with her animals and Noah’s Ark, her animals where talking and jumping in the water in her imagination. This was amazing! Instead of her emptying her mini kitchen onto the floor she was actually playing!
That’s it, I have decided what I have bagged up is going onto my Vinted profile! If you want to start Vinted yourself, use this link here (this is a sponsored link where I earn for inviting friends, this is at no cost to you.)
With being a mum yourself, I think this is a great place to start – TOYS! One room or one category at a time and toys are unbelievably overwhelming and cause a lot of stress when cleaning etc for us mums!
The Magic of Capsule Wardrobes for the Whole Family
What is a capsule wardrobe? Now, minimalist create capsule wardrobes which allow them to have a tiny wardrobe. This usually consists of a for example 5 tops, 3 trousers, 3 jumpers etc depending on the person. This could be difficult with the kids, but this has instigated me to review how many items of clothes the kids have and how many is being bought – do they actually need it?
Instead of following fashion and matchy matchy sets, create mix and match outfits which still look lovely! For example, my toddler has several pairs of black leggings which go with any top!
Meal Planning for Simpler Living
Planning your weekly menu to reduce decisions throughout the week can be a lifesaver! You will use up leftovers and buy less food, which means less money and less time in the supermarket win, win! However as an extra tip, it may be worth planning into your week when you will actually do your meal planning. No one talks about this...but it can be sometimes hard to remember to do or even allocate time to do it.
Batch cooking is my best friend! I tend to batch cook from whatever food I have in and then buy my food shopping the next day. Then I only buy things I need, if anything! I batch cook things like spaghetti bolognese sauce, chilli con carne sauce, curries, lasagnes, basically anything I can freeze easily in zip-lock bags. These are the bags I use.
Digital Decluttering for Peace of Mind
This is as simple as it sounds, declutter your digital life.
- Your laptop – unneeded documents
- Mobile phone apps
- Mobile photos
- Email subscriptions
- iPad
- Anything else digital!
It’s a good idea to get your family involved in this one, create a habit with your kids if they use technology to have a digital detox. Remove unneeded emails, files etc and then even schedule in no technology days or hours of the day.
Focus on Experiences, Not Things
This can be super hard due to the ways we have been brought up AND due to all the adverts we see all day every day. But, if you can consciously remind yourself you can reduce your material purchases. A great thing to do is to swap your material purchases for things like birthdays to an experience, such as going to the theatre, an adventure experience or even a fun bike ride. The less that you buy, the less that comes into your house to sit there and collect dust.
I hope this has helped you as much as it has helped me, I am currently on this journey and I am trying to reduce what we have in our house and what we are bringing in. With the aim to make cleaning easier and quicker, to create good habits for my children and to help them develop in the best ways!
Now, its your turn to have a try!
